Diane is a newly emerging artist in New England, on Cape Cod and in the encaustic scene. She utilizes oils, mixed media and heat fusing. She uses little encaustic paint instead preferring to paint with oils and oil pigments in layers that are then heat fused. She opts for a blow torch over a paintbrush. Although her paintings tend to the abstract she is very influenced by the natural beauty which abounds on the Cape. Hailing from Providence, and having lived in Manhattan, she is also influenced by industrial city perspectives. Diane paints  what she feels about what she is seeing, rather than what she sees. Her work is original and emotional, a testimony to the beauty one can find in nature, and the everyday; and how one can respond to it.  Her work resonates with an depth and  displays a deep sensibility,  as well as whimsy. She has a BFA from RIC and studied sculpture with an art history minor. Her encasutic work is self taught and her desire and attraction to texture and dimension are distinct to her work .Utilizing mixed media and multi-layers she combines both of these elements. Her work is represented by Gallery Artrio in Hyannis' MA.

Diane Slater  currently resides on Cape Cod.
